And probably with the help from her partner in crime, in which we will never know.
It was the middle of the night and I was about to sleep, when suddenly I heard some jumping and whining. I’m sure the whining was from Coco but not too sure about the jumping. So I looked out from the window and saw Xiao Bi lying there with her I’m-not-impressed expression. Coco was walking towards her and settled beside.
Everything looked normal, except that Coco was settling down and there were stains of water splashing around. I thought she must have made a mess when everyone else was resting.
So I decided to check out the mess only to find out that this mess was bigger that I thought. There was a HUGE animal carcass in the middle of the road! No blood, only stains of water. And that’s when Xiao Bi stood up and went sniffing that poor thing and was all dude what’s this?
I thought it was a rat and asked Wah to check it out. He got a little excited and actually said something like oh wow our dog is awesome!
Except that he came in 5 minutes later a little disappointed and said, “That was a frog.”
Since there was no blood and all, I’m sure Coco was just trying to play with the frog, without realising that FROGS DON’T PLAY SO BRUTALLY.
So we have two dogs. A Golden Retriever named Xiao Bi and a supermutt named Coco.
They are lovely dogs. I love that they are so active and energetic everyday and that they love running around the yard chasing among themselves. And they don’t care if they have knocked down a planter or two – they will turn around and bark and them, as if the planters shouldn’t be there blocking their way in the first place. Oh talk about the messiness!
But. I hate the way they greet other dogs, and the way they react when they are not appropriately greeted by other dogs.
You wanna know what will happen when they do it their way?
There will be wounds and bruises on my knees, elbows, and chin. Oh and not to forget that pain on my hip too!
Yes that’s what my dogs did to me last Sunday. I took them out for our usual evening walk as me and Wah had a little argument and I thought it would be great for me to handle them more by myself so they could see me more as their pack leader too – by the way, I occasionally handled them and used to walk them so I didn’t think it would be a problem. But when we saw a neighbour and stopped to talk for a while, and another neighbour’s dog came barking and trying to snip them, they went all crazy. Just when I thought I’ve settled them down and wanted to turn and start walking again, Xiao Bi wanted to approach the dog so badly that she knocked me down and dragged me along!
I don’t wanna talk about how embarrassing it was falling down in the middle of the road with so many people looking at me. I wanna talk about how painful the wounds are. The last time I fell down was god-knows-when, and despite constantly telling my little niece lately that when she falls down she doesn’t have to cry and should get up on her own, the fact is I didn’t even remember how it feels like falling down! AND NOW I REMEMBER! Urgh!
So the neighbour sent me and the dogs back, and I immediately washed up the wounds under running water. AND DAMN IT IT WAS SO PAINFUL that my tear would come down any moment. But little niece followed me everywhere to see me cleaning them so to live up to what I said to her, I cannot cry. I CANNOT CRY!
But I cursed.
So people. Please be nice and don’t ask me out for the next 1-2 weeks. Not until at least that bump and scratches under my chin are gone and my wounds are starting to heal that I don’t have to put cotton wool and patches all over myself.
Jasmine dropped by again yesterday evening to give Scooby a bath (oh and by the way, me and Wah already bathed him yesterday, whee!) and also a mild antibiotic injection for his skin condition. I kept double and triple-confirming with her that the injection will not harm him, judging that he is already so old, until a point that even I myself thought I must be annoying. :P Anyway Scooby was doing fine as of this morning so there shouldn’t be any problem.
She gave me this card that she bought before she left.

My wallet is close to empty this month, but I have no regret. :)
When we adopted Coco back in June 2009, we wanted to have a companion for Xiao Bi so she wouldn’t be so bored and start messing up the place – yes I’ll admit, that was our primary intention. After having Gobi (Xiao Bi’s sister) and Xiao Bi, I didn’t want to buy another dog and decided that there were so many strays out there waiting to be adopted and I’ll have one of them. The right one. So we met Coco.

She was so small when she first joined us. My family always made fun of her almost-entirely-black appearance – even her tongue has some black spots!

Though she was small, she still wrestled with Xiao Bi. And Xiao Bi being the big sister was surprisingly very gentle with her new mate – in fact she has NEVER been that gentle to me before!

In no time, Coco has grown into a piece of black wind (if there is such a thing) full of energy, running around the house digging and chewing on things like nobody’s business. And that’s when we realised OMG WE’VE GOT OURSELVES ANOTHER XIAO BI!

Anyway, HAPPY 1 YEAR OLD, Coco! I hope now that you’ve finally celebrated your first birthday, you’ll learn not to crawl into the neighbour’s yard, not to play with anything handy or not handy including paints, not to eat everything you see including the toys, not to eat your own poop – and PLEASE STOP POOPING ON YOUR OWN BLANKET!
We love you!
